Fuel Economy
The 2018 Range Rover Velar's higher fuel efficiency becomes more apparent when you consider
fuel economy. The Range Rover Velar offers a combined estimated 23 mpg, which
breaks down to 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on highways. Those numbers are
more in line with what you'd expect to find in a smaller sedan than an SUV. The
2018 Mercedes GLE Coupe, however, is only delivering 17 mpg on city streets and
23 mpg on the open highway.
Performance
The 2018 Range Rover Velar comes with a standard 2.0-liter
four-cylinder engine capable of reaching a maximum 247 horsepower with 269
pound-feet torque. If you think those numbers are a bit low, consider that the
Velar is pulling the type of horsepower you may expect from an entry-level V6
engine out of a more efficient four-cylinder engine. That's actually quite
impressive.
The 2018 Mercedes GLE Coupe, in comparison, comes standard with a
3.0-liter V6 engine that provides up to 385 horsepower and 384 pound-feet
torque. Although the GLE offers greater overall power, the fact that the Range
Rover Velar is able to produce rather impressive numbers with its smaller, more
efficient engine makes it the winner in this category for shoppers who are
interested in a more practical family vehicle.
Luxury & Convenience
In terms of onboard luxury technology, both vehicles have much to
offer, including all of your staple tech offerings like Bluetooth connectivity,
an onboard entertainment system for passengers, and streaming media playback.
One interesting way the Range Rover Velar stands out over the GLE, however, is
in its steering-wheel-mounted control interface.
While the Mercedes GLE Coupe offers control over basic system
functions such as volume control, the Range Rover Velar hands control over
almost every onboard system directly to the driver by providing access to
everything on the steering wheel through two large button interfaces on the
left and right of the wheel. This positioning makes it possible for the driver
to control everything needed for access without having to take the focus away
from the road to interact with the onboard control panel.
You can't deny that the 2018 Range Rover Velar and the 2018
Mercedes GLE Coupe are among the best luxury SUVs on the market today. While
these vehicles are both solid choices, the Range Rover's attention to detail -
in combination with the intelligent choice to include a more efficient, albeit
somewhat less powerful engine - makes the Range Rover Velar a better overall
choice for family-oriented buyers. Visit Land Rover Buckhead of Atlanta to take this vehicle for a test drive.
